Peruvian National Survey of Mental Health and Service Utilization (2024-present)
Principal Investigators: Drs. Victor Cruz and Bizu Gelaye
Our research group is collaborating with the Peruvian National Institute of Health and Harvard University School of Public Health to analyze data collected as part of the Peruvian National Survey of Mental Health and Service Utilization (PNSMH). The PNSMH is an epidemiological survey of mental disorders in a nationally representative sample of 35,309 (72.4%) Peruvians aged 2+ years from 48,786 eligible households. The study was designed to assess the prevalence and patterns of psychiatric and substance use disorders in a nationally representative population, identify current treatment gaps and patterns of mental health care seeking and service utilization. Findings of this study will enable robust population-level assessment of current mental health care needs and challenges in Peru and will provide the groundwork for continued population-level assessments.
